TapeTrade

Privacy policy

Last updated: 19 September 2026

TapeTrade is an Android TV app that plays your own video collection. It has no accounts, no servers of ours and no analytics. Everything it knows lives on your device, and this page explains the few times it talks to anyone else.

What TapeTrade stores, and where

All of it stays on your device: your library (titles, dates, watch progress), the settings you enter, and any thumbnails it makes. We never receive any of it. We don't run a service that could.

Passwords, API keys and access tokens you give the app (a WebDAV password, a Dropbox or Google sign-in, a TMDB or TVDB key, an rclone encryption password) are kept in the app's private storage on your device and are sent only to the service they belong to.

Google Drive

If you connect Google Drive, TapeTrade asks for one permission: read-only access to your Drive files (drive.readonly). It uses that to list the folders you choose and to stream the video files in them to your TV. It cannot change, delete or upload anything.

TapeTrade's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Other services the app contacts

No other network requests are made. There is no advertising, tracking, or crash reporting.

The admin page

The app can serve a small management page on your home network so you can edit your library from a phone or computer. It is switched off unless you turn it on from the TV, is reachable only from your local network, and can be protected with a PIN.

Encryption

If you use rclone-encrypted storage, decryption happens on your device as the video plays. The password is never sent anywhere, and nothing is decrypted to disk except the small thumbnail images.

Children

TapeTrade is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone.
